Lead stories in West Berlin on the Middle East crisis.
But from East Berlin,
- BERLINER ZEITUNG (pro-SED) alleged that the West
Berlin police deliberately fail to ever identify the persons who paint swastikas
and Nazi slogans on buildings. The recurrent smearings, the paper said,
indicate organized activities. It claimed that the police know very well
where the culprits are to be found. When demonstrators, students and
pupils are to be hunted, the police will be there to beat, shoot, arrest and
search where is the slightest indication of opposition, but the neo-Nazis have a
green light and the certainty that the policement are their friends and helpers.
###
[-- rwr note: this was a recurrent theme from the
East side. While the Springer press saw constant threats from the
Left radicals, the Left press was just as certain that neo-Nazis were more
organized than ever.]
